Preventing or reducing falls in aged care is something that all providers want to achieve and the evidence is now very clear that an evidence informed strength and balance programme can decrease falls by up to 55%. This is a significant number and if your aged care facility isn’t already providing exercise classes with these results then we can help.
Whoa to Go is based on international evidence and designed with On the Go Physio’s extensive experience working in aged care. We train your team to deliver an effective 12 week programme that is individualised, progressive and run with 8 residents at a time. Your physiotherapist is involved at the beginning and end of the 12 weeks with a brief assessment and re-assessment of outcome measure – making this a very cost-effective use of your physiotherapy service.
Many facilities already run regular exercise groups and there is a huge opportunity here to increase the impact of these groups. Strength and balance based exercise groups don’t just decrease falls, they have also been shown to increase overall function and improve quality of life for residents. Exercise, with the right nutrition and medical input, can also improve frailty scores and all of this leads to a decrease in care needs.
Contact us directly to find out more about our next training opportunity and to see if this is right for your facility.
